    • Vernon Hawkins, 51, died under Hospice care Feb. 22, 2005 at the family home in Romeo.
He was born Nov. 17, 1953 in Alamosa, the first of eight children to Ralph and Eli Margaret Hawkins.
A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he grew up in Sanford and was married to Susie Jean Monter on Feb. 14, 1995. Their marriage was later sealed in the Albuquerque temple.
Devoted to his church and family, he will be remembered for his many acts of kindness. He was a truck driver all his life and enjoyed fishing and camping, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his wife and his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Susie of the family home; one stepson, Kyle (Candace) Hatfield; his parents, Ralph and Eli Margaret Hawkins of Sanford; two sisters, Corinne (Art) Pitcher of Horse Fly, B.C. Canada, and Glenda (Steve) Winslow of Bozeman, Mont.; five brothers, Ronald (Marianne) Hawkins of Genola, Utah, Grant (Susan) Hawkins of Tooele, Utah, James (Cindy) Hawkins of Lindon, Utah, Leslie (Janene) Hawkins of Sanford and Stan (Jill) Hawkins of Saint George, Utah; two grandchildren, Jessica and Blake Hatfield of Gunnison; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at the La Jara First Ward Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Visitations will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25 at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Manassa and from 10-11 a.m. Saturday morning at the church in La Jara. Burial will follow services in the Sanford Cemetery.
