Notater - Edward Ashton Kjar (Ted) passed away at home Friday September 30, 2011 surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren. He died of natural causes at the age of 89.
Ted was born in Salt Lake City on June 19, 1922 to Joseph Edward Kjar and Effie Ashton Kjar in Salt Lake City, UT. He married Merlyn Yates in the Salt Lake Temple on July 28, 1951. He graduated from East High School and attended California Technical Institute, Mesa Jr. College, St. Mary's College and graduated in Business from the University of Utah. He proudly served as a bomber pilot in the Navy Air Corp during World War II. Following the war, he served a mission to the Japanese people in Hawaii within the Central Pacific Mission which changed his life. Following his mission, Ted worked for Lowe and Campbell, Phillips Petroleum and later became a representative for Hardwick Clothes. Ted was famous for providing genuine friendship while selling clothing out of his office on South Temple.
Ted was a humble follower of Christ who served in many callings in the Church. He served as a Teacher, Home Teacher, Seventy, in the Bishopric and in Elders Quorum and High Priest Group leadership. In these callings, Ted preferred to serve outside of the spotlight, quietly and without notoriety. Most importantly, Ted lived the principles that he taught and blessed the lives of many people.
Ted is survived by his eternal companion Merlyn; children Todd Kjar (Jennifer C. ), Jennifer Kjar; siblings Morris A. Kjar and Norma Dalton; and grandchildren Ashton Bruno, Joseph Kjar, Samuel Kjar, and Sarah Kjar.
The family would like to thank Alvin Anderson, Paul Olsen, Claudia Vasquez and Morris Kjar for their extraordinary service rendered during Ted's illness.
Friends may visit the family at the Holladay Stake Center located at 4685 South Holladay Boulevard, Holladay, Utah on Friday October 7 at 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.; the funeral services will be held thereafter at the Holladay Stake Center at 11:00 a.m.
