3720 | Charles Grant Carlisle, 86, passed away on April 19, 2009 due to complications following surgery. Grant was born April 13, 1923 in Millcreek, Utah, the oldest son of Charles Luther and Margaret Carlisle. As a young boy, his family moved to West Mountain where they owned and operated a dairy farm. Grant graduated from Payson High School and attended Utah State University. He served for 3 years in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during WW II. He then went into the dairy business with his brother-in-law, Lee Rindlisbacher, founding Town Pride Dairy. Grant accepted a call to serve the Lord in the California mission. Upon completion of his missionary service, he married Lylia Porter on May 24, 1949 in the Mesa, Arizona Temple. They made their home in Payson and continued in the dairy business. In later years, Grant worked for the Nebo School District and McMullin's Orchards. He enjoyed gardening, hiking, and fishing the lakes of Payson Canyon and the Uinta Mountains. Grant is survived by his wife, Lylia Carlisle, and their eight children: Linda (John) Holmes of Richland, Washington; Calvin of Concho, Arizona; Marvin of Ogden, Utah; Shanna Stevens of Jerome, Idaho; Dennis (Darlene) of Genola; Susan (Roger) Tuckett of Spanish Fork, Utah; Jeff (Julie) of Spring Lake, Utah, and Daren (Renee) of Reston, Virginia; 30 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Grant is also survived by I brother and 4 sisters: David (Elaine) Carlisle of Salt Lake City, Utah; Margaret (Orval) Wilson of Salt Lake City, Utah; Helen (Read) Black of Provo, Utah; Ila Peterson of Orem, Utah; Lois (Ernie) Moore of Milwaukie, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Joann Carlisle Finch, and 3 brothers: Gerald, Elmo, and Ivan. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2009, 11:00 AM at the Payson West Stake Center, 780 West 500 South, Payson. A viewing will be held Wednesday, 6-8 PM at Walker Mortuary, 587 S 100 W, Payson. A viewing will also be held Thursday, 9:30-10:30 AM at the Stake Center. Burial will be in the Payson City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Grant's family suggests donations be made in his memory to the Boy Scouts of America at www.utahscouts.org. 3733 | Clarence O. Durham, Jr. 1920-2015 Dr. Clarence Orson "Clay" Durham, Jr. PhD geologist, passed away Sunday, April 12, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 94. Clay was born in Victoria, Texas, on October 20, 1920, the son of Clarence Durham, Sr. and Maud Leffland Durham. Clay's lifetime accomplishments were many. He received a B.S. in geology with honors from the University of Texas in 1942. He earned a professional certificate in meteorology from University of Chicago in 1943 and served as a meteorologist in the Army Air Corps during World War 2. After the war, he continued his education at Columbia University where he was awarded his PhD in geology. Clay joined the faculty at Louisiana State University in 1951 as a professor of geology. He also served as Director of Research for the Louisiana Geological Survey during his tenure at LSU. In 1965 he was named chairman of the LSU Department of Geology, a position that he held until he retired in 1975 to pursue work as a consulting geologist. Clay moved to Houston in 1978 and began a successful career in oil and gas exploration in partnership with ex-student and long time friend Brian Parsons. Clay's interests were wide-ranging. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of Texas history and loved to read about Texas history, flora and fauna. He had a passion for geology, and some of his daughters' favorite memories were the impromptu geological lectures during road trips of any natural phenomena that he found interesting. Clay was well-known and well-loved by many. His former LSU students held him in great esteem. Many say their lives were forever changed by their association with this remarkable man. Clay is survived by his former wife, Louise Durham, daughters Evelyn Durham and Amy Durham Wang, future son-in-law Matthew Harding, son-in-law Warren Wang, and three grandchildren - Joshua, Sarah, and Matthew Wang. A celebration of Life will be held Friday May 22nd at 2:00pm at the Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Drive Houston, Texas followed by a get together at Hungry's Café at 14714 Memorial Drive. Clint 's tax practice focuses on federal and state tax issues relating to business and real estate transactions, as well as business structuring. He advises both lenders and borrowers regarding the tax consequences of loan workouts, discharge and foreclosures. Clint has significant experience regarding tax issues affecting limited liability companies, partnerships and joint ventures under Sub-Chapter K of the Internal Revenue code. He also counsels clients in all aspects of estate and gift tax planning and wealth preservation. Clint was born and raised in Boise, Idaho. He has served as a youth soccer coach for the Capitol Youth Soccer Association and a ski racing coach for the Bogus Basin Ski Racing Alliance. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Boise State University Bronco Athletic Association. Additionally, he has provided pro bono legal services to local charities, including the Richard J. Sabala foundation in McCall, Idaho. 3735 | Clinton, Utah-Charlene Kilgrow Zitting passed away on Monday, September 8, 2014 from natural causes. She was born to Charles F. and Bonnie Elane Zitting on December 18, 1945. She was preceded in death by her parents, some siblings and her oldest son, John. She is survived by her children, Sarah, LaRaine, Deborah, Emily, Bill, Rebekah, Elizabeth, Joseph, Charles, Mary and brothers and sisters and many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. 3749 | Cyrus Grow Cyrus Raymond Cyrus, age 77, died Saturday afternoon at an Idaho Falls rest home where he has been a patient for the last three years. He was born Jan. 12, 1900, at Ammon, the son of Cyrus Lott Grow and Cecelia Zitting Grow. He attended schools in Ogden, moving to Idaho Falls in 1917. He worked for the Wood Livestock Co. at Spencer and also worked at ranches in and around Dillon, Mont. area. He retired about 20 years ago, moving to Shell Beach, Calif., before returning to Idaho Falls in 1964. He had never married. He is survived by his brothers, John W. Grow of Idaho Falls and by several nieces and nephews of Idaho Falls, Pocatello, and Salt Lake City, Utah. He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother. Graveside services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Ammon Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Wood Funeral Home from noon Tuesday until 12:45 p.m. when the funeral cortege will leave to go to the cemetery.
