    • service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at the Hickory Creek Baptist Church, 13244 Hickory Creek Road, Lowell, Arkansas to celebrate the life of Earl Roger Wahl who left this earth to be with his Lord on June 18, 2010. Burial will be at the Hickory Creek Cemetery. Pastor Steve Jordan will officiate.
      Earl was born September 13, 1932 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Harry and Inger Wahl.
      He is survived by his wife, Beverly whom he married July 19, 1952, two sons Kevin and his wife Lynne of Winslow and Michael and his wife Dawn of Lowell, and one daughter Kimberly and her husband, Brian Callich of Lowell. He is also survived by his sister Harriett and her husband Jerome Freding of Alexandria, Minnesota, three grandchildren, Andrea and her husband Matt Reese of Springdale, Tyler Callich and Darrin Wahl, three step granddaughters, Channing, Madison and Hayden Laird and 12 nieces and nephews.
      Earl entered the US Army in April 1953 and was stationed in Dachau, Germany. Upon discharge in 1955, he returned to his civilian occupation as an auto mechanic. He began his civil service career in April 1962 at Ft. Snelling, Minnesota; leaving Ft. Snelling for a 12-month period to work as an engineer equipment mechanic for the Missile Support at New Brighton, Minnesota. In April 1966, he returned to the US Army Reserve Center at Ft. Snelling. While in Minnesota, he joined the 865th Ordinance Company serving as Motor Sergeant until 1965 when he was appointed as a Warrant Officer with the 385th Engineer Group. In 1966 returned to the 865th Ordinance Company and served until 1968.
      In 1972 Earl moved with his family to Arkansas. He resumed his Federal civil service career as an Army Reserve maintenance technician at the Fayetteville Army Reserve Center and joined the 306th Civil Affairs Group serving until his deactivation in 1978. He then served with the 362d PSYOPs Co. in Fayetteville until 1981, at which time he was transferred to the Broken Arrow, OK AMSA 20 (G) and joined the 817th Supply Co. in Tulsa. He served a total of 25 years in the US Army Reserves and 28 years as a Federal civil service employee. During this time he received many awards and commendations for his service. Earl retired with his family at his Beaver Lake home and lived there until his death.
      He was a member of Hickory Creek Baptist Church in Lowell. In addition to his family and church, his greatest joys were traveling, spending winters in Florida, fishing in Canada, water skiing and auto racing.
      Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Springdale. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in his name to the Hickory Creek Baptist Church Building Fund.
      Earl was blessed with a wonderful family and church family who supported him in his courageous fight against pancreatic cancer and there are no words to express his gratitude to them. He was also blessed with a compassionate medical team and the family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Bradford and the Highland Oncology Staff and to the Circle of Life Hospice for their loving care.
