A retired Stark County firefighter was found stabbed to death in his Alliance home Wednesday morning shortly after his car was found burning in Lexington Township.
Stark County deputies found the body of James R. Leeson, 66, at his East College Street home while investigating a report from a passing motorist that his car was on fire shortly after 7 a.m. Thursday.
Leeson was retired from the Alliance Fire Department.
Deputies called officers from the Alliance Police Department, who collected three carloads of evidence at Leeson's home, authorities said.
Alliance detectives have several leads they are pursuing at this time.
An investigator from the Stark County Coroner's Office pronounced Leeson dead at the scene. Although Leeson had been stabbed in the chest, an official cause of death has not been released by the coroner's office, authorities said.
An autopsy is scheduled for today.

Walton-Schrader Funeral Home is handling services for 66-year-old Leeson, a former city firefighter who was discovered stabbed to death in the basement of his brick bungalow.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church with interment following in the church's cemetery.
Leeson, a Vietnam veteran who served during the Vietnam War, will receive military honors.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
According to Det. Don Wensel, police continue to follow up on leads.
Stark County sheriff's deputies arrived at Leeson's residence at 832 E. College St. Thursday morning to follow up after finding Leeson's car on fire in Lexington Township.
A neighbor with a key let in deputies, who discovered Leeson dead and contacted Alliance police shortly after 9 a.m. that morning.
Police returned Friday morning to Lexington Township miles away from the location of the burning car and searched a rental property at 11414 Pettit Ave., where investigators collected additional forensic evidence.
Upon contact with the property owner Sunday afternoon, a family spokeswoman told The Review that the persons of interest were not tenants of her mother's but apparently had been staying in the residence with the tenants.
They are no longer there, she added.
