Notater - Richard Allen Winterrose 1927 ~ 2010 We are so blessed to have had Dick in our lives. He was a compassionate, loving, giving and forgiving husband, father and grandfather. He loved people; he lived his religion by the way he treated others. He made friends easily and cherished every friendship he made. He was loved and will be missed more than words can say.Richard Allen Winterrose was born May 18, 1927, in Cedar City, Utah, the son of Ruben and Jennie Middleton Winterrose. He joined the Navy after high school, then attended Branch Agricultural College, where he was the first person to letter (in football) for four straight years. He was awarded the first BAC blanket that fourth year and it now hangs in the SUU Centrum. He lived his whole life in Cedar City. He worked for many years as a diesel mechanic for the Utah Parks Company and then for California Pacific Utilities until his retirement in 1989. He was an active Elk, belonging to BPOE1556, serving as Exalted Ruler 1964-65. He distributed Christmas candy from the Elks to Cedar City area widows for 56 years, a job he dearly loved, until poor health forced him to resign. He loved baking sour dough carrot cakes, hot cakes and bread for his family and friends. He loved golf, poker, going to Mesquite, and watching General Hospital. He was a member of the LDS church. He died at home on November 24, 2010, after a long illness which he endured with grace and dignity. He is survived by his wife, the former Christine Houchen, his daughters Jill (Russell) Allen of Aloha, Oregon; Robin (Rick) Parker and Angela (Keith) Van Scoyk, both of Cedar City. Survivors also include sisters Lois (Vance) Johnson, Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Jackie (Kay) Fullmer, St. George; and a brother Gayle (Carolyn) Winterrose, of Salt Lake City, 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., at the Community Presbyterian Church located at 2279 N. Wedge-wood Lane, Cedar City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Cedar City Elks Lodge Widows Christmas Candy Fund or other Elks Charity Programs.
