Notater - DARROW, Else Marie (née Andersen) of Woodstock, ON in her 95th year passed away peacefully in her sleep with family by her side on November 3, 2014. Else was born in Denmark on February 29, 1920 and grew up on a farm with her four brothers and one sister before coming to Canada with her husband, Johannes (John) Andersen (2001), and four young children in 1951. She worked at Munro’s farm in Embro and the Ingersoll Cheese Factory. In 1974 she married her second husband, Charles Darrow, while working at the Ontario Regional Centre (ORC) in Woodstock and she retired in 1985 from the Queen Street Mental Health Centre in Toronto, after almost 25 years of service, as a Food Service Supervisor. After returning to her home in Woodstock, she enjoyed travelling in the USA and Canada, especially her “dream trip” to Hawaii and returning on several occasions to visit family in Denmark. Else was a strong, vibrant, tenacious and adventurous woman and she lived life to the fullest.
She is predeceased by her parents, Maren (1962) and Laurits (1957) Andersen, her brothers Peter (2011), Niels (2012), Börge (2013) and Hans (2014) and her son, Kaj Emil Andersen (1963). She was dearly loved and will be missed by her sister, Bine Malm; her children, Erling Andersen (Donna), Karen Whitelaw (Don), and Irma Andersen; her grandchildren Lisa Laing (Ted Montgomery), Sean Herron (Rochelle), Jennifer Shepherd (Johnny), Jessica Happl (Aaron) and Michael Whitelaw (Lisa), and her great-grandchildren, Byron, Jacob, Erica, Aiden, Kaitlyn, Riley, Sophia, Callista, Ryan, Logan and Molly. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Denmark whom she loved. The Family will receive friends at the SMITH-LEROY FUNERAL HOME, 69 Wellington Street North, Woodstock on Saturday, November 08, 2014 from 11-12, with the service in the chapel at 12 noon.
