Viola Kristine Onken, age 97, of Fennville, died Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at Resthaven Care Center in Holland.
Born November 20, 1912, in Allegan County, she was the daughter of Laurits and Anna ( Jorgensen) Pedersen. A retired secretary, she worked for many years at Michigan Fruit Canners in Fennville. A long time area resident, Viola was a member of the Fennville United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard O. Onken Sr.; and one son, LaVerne Onken. Surviving are her children, Richard and Anna May Onken of Fennville, Carole M. Vork of Holland, and Phyllis and Larry Babinski of Fennville; 15 grandchildren; many great- grandchildren and great- great- grandchildren; her brother, Herman and Eva Pederson of Parma; sister, Esther Grigsby of Kalamazoo; and her daughter- in-law, Rose Onken of South Haven.
Visitation will be today from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 2010, at Chappell Funeral Home in Fennville. Officiating will be Ms. Marcia Tucker, and burial will be in the Fennville Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Fennville United Methodist Church or Resthaven Care Center.
