Notater - Biography
Darla Bair Heindel Mathews, 91, of Idaho Falls, passed away on January 7, 2013 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho, due to an illness. The family would like to thank Life Care Center for helping her with her rehab.
Darla was born December 8, 1921, in Rexburg, Idaho to Robert Welcome Preece and Mary Jerusha Bair Preece. She attended school in the Rexburg area. Darla grew up on a farm. Later in life, she worked in a bakery and took in ironing, where she was an expert. She was first and foremost a homemaker. Darla lived in Hibbard for the first eighteen years of her life and then moved to Idaho Falls where she lived for seventy-three years.
On November 28, 1939, she married Harold LeRoy Heindel. They had one son and one daughter. Harold was killed in World War II on May 10, 1945. On June 6, 1946, she married Lewis Grant Mathews in Idaho Falls. Darla and Lewis had one son. They were married for 62 years.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She enjoyed playing cards, square dancing, cooking, quilting, was a great bowler, and a great mother, wife, and grandmother. She was adored by her family.
Her focus was on her family and grandchildren. Anyone could drop by her house and you would not leave hungry. You were always welcome in her home. She loved all of her dogs. She was a perfectionist at everything she did, doing it the right way with the right tools. She came from the generation who believed when you went out, you dressed up and looked your best, and she always did.
Darla is survived by
a Son, Harold Richard Heindel of Farmington, UT;
a Daughter, Darla Jean Storms of Idaho Falls, ID;
14 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harold LeRoy Heindel and Lewis Grant Mathews, son, Lewis Lynn Mathews, her parents, a step-mother, Lila Preece, a sister, Verda Bair Preece Pincock, three brothers, Dean Bair Preece, Perry Bair Preece, and Robert Grant Bair Preece.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Wood Funeral Home (273 North Ridge), with Bishop Steve Holtom officiating. The family will visit with friends from from 10 AM to 10:45 AM prior to the service at Wood Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
